Whether you're a social butterfly who loves to be surrounded by people or the solitary type that just needs a little challenge, one or more of these ideas might be the right fit:
Challengeloop "Push your limits, accomplish your goals, and win. It’s that simple" is Challengeloop's motto. This site allows you to join a challenge ranging from the "Eat Healthy Challenge" to Rookie Spring Training. Or start your own, challenge your friends and get other Challengeloop viewers on the bandwagon. It has apps for phones and integration with Facebook and Twitter. The best part is that there are prizes!
DietBet Nothing like a friendly competition to achieve your weight loss goals. With DietBet you can join a game for a small wager (usually $25) or start your own. The pot grows as players join in and those "winners (or "losers" if you prefer) split the pot. Competitors have a minimum of 4 weeks, depending on the game, to lose 4% of their body weight which typically equals 2 pounds per week. DietBet does it all for you within it's site, offers much support and you do not have to post your weight publicly. There's a special running now where DietBet will refund your wager if you get 8+ friends to join (use promo PLAYFORFREE).
Meetup "Neighbors getting together to learn something, do something, share something..." is the tagline for Meetup. There is every conceivable type of activity in every area on this site. Join a hiking or biking group. Tired of relying for your best friend to find time to walk? Well, now you can walk with a reliable group. There are plenty of social (wine tasting?) as well as active opportunities so the sky's the limit.
Pure Barre Did you dream of being a dancer when you were young but missed the bar (pun intended)? Now is your chance to get that ballerina figure with a Pure Barre class. "Pure Barre lifts your seat, tones your thighs, abs and arms and burns fat in record breaking time." Classes are held throughout the nation.
Active Active's mission is to "Power the world's activities and connect people with the things they love, want and need to do." This site has activities and events stemming from Iron Man competitions to marathons and everything in between. Sign up for a charity walk or get physical doing your favorite sport. If you want something to do, Active.com has it.
Hire a Personal Trainer How many times have you started an exercise program and stopped? Remember those New Year's Resolutions? How many have you kept over the years? Get motivated! Hiring a Personal Trainer can help you permanently lose your excess weight and gain better overall body fitness and health. There are many services out there to help you find the right trainer in your neighborhood, such as: IDEA FitnessConnect, or Expect2GetFit. And don't worry...we're all not obnoxious and bullies.
Online Personal Training Okay, so maybe you don't want to invest in a personal trainer or perhaps you just need a little guidance along the way. Online personal training might just be what you need. Many sites offer free registration and a plethora of tools to personalize your regime. Google "online personal training " to find a service that meets your needs or check out my training site's (The Traveling Trainers) member tour to see what's available.
Social Media There are thousands of platforms out there to share your thoughts, challenges and to get advice from others. Facebook of course is one route with it's many groups and pages to chose from - heck, you could even create your own group if you can't find one that is tailored to your needs. Plus you can post your dilemma on your wall and receive a plethora of responses. Twitter has second by second tweets that deliver info constantly. Pinterest is fun for of course, pinning, but tons of pins have infographics with health, exercises, weight loss and diet info...it's not just for salivating over decadent pix of desserts! Visit YouTube for any exercise video under the sun (why buy an exercise dvd when there are so many great workouts online?) or even for step-by-step techniques for creating the perfect souffle.
Here are a couple of my favorite YouTube channels with workouts, recipes and lots of fun stuff to get you started:
The Sweaty Betties
So, with the activities that abound, I'm sure that there's something that will tickle your fancy. Just a few keystrokes on the computer and you're certain to find just what you've been looking for.
Got any other ideas on how to find fun activities?
Maybe you've found a great class you'd like to recommend, a site that can't be missed or another way to match like-minded individuals up.
Please share your tidbits with us.
